The Ogea people have been working on a translation of the New Testament into their language for many years. Kelebai Iriwai was the principal translator until 2004 when he unexpectedly died. Four Ogea men and one woman have committed to continuing the work on the Ogea New Testament. They work under the auspices of the Papua New Guinea Bible Translation Association. The main financial sponsor of this project is Ascension Lutheran Church in Littleton, Colorado. A number of individuals also support this project.
The first draft of the Ogea New Testament was completed in November, 2001.
Completion of the first draft is a major milestone! Before the Ogea New Testament can be published, it has to go through the following quality assurance steps, which will take several years to complete: a review by representatives from each of the Ogea villages (village check), a review by translation consultants who are members of the Wycliffe Bible Translators (based on back-translations), a review by the project advisor. Finally, the entire New Testament must be formatted. (Note: a back-translation is a highly literally translation from Ogea back into either English or Tok Pisin (a trade language in PNG) so a Wycliffe consultant can get a feel for what the translation says.)
This zip file contains the latest draft of the Ogea New Testament. Each book of the New Testament is a separate file. The files are in ASCII format. Currently the draft uses Standard Format Markers to indicate section headings, verse numbers, etc.
